DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION: THE MISCONCEIVED VALUES OF TODAY'S SOCIETY

Nowadays companies are talking about diversity. They want to prove to the public they embrace diversity and have made inclusivity one of their core values. Before we continue unravelling our thoughts, let's think for a bit. What is currently defined as diversity and inclusivity? --- Diversity: the practice or quality of including or involving people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations, etc. Inclusivity:  the practice or policy of providing equal access to opportunities and resources for people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized, such as those having physical or mental disabilities or belonging to other minority groups. --- In a perfect society, diversity and inclusion would mean letting any person enter, or the chance to enter, a group of people. In such a world, we would not even think, nor be preoccupied, of other people's color, way of dressing, sexual orientation, gender, among many many others....

SAINT LAURENT SS21 FASHION COLLECTION | FASHION DESIGNER Anthony Vaccarello | A warm dream of Optimism & Seduction | OutLoud

Fashion brand Saint Laurent, SS21 collection by Anthony Vaccarello. A sweet escape into the hot desert and sensual world of the brand's DNA!

The Saint Laurent SS21 apocalypse was something we needed to see. Just for our eyes to feel some joy. Just for our beauty spirit to feel some peace. Anthony Vaccarello and Nathalie Canguilhem created this.

This reminds me why I love fashion. This gave us exactly what we wanted. An injection of beauty. Right? It is not about showing off. It is pure style. Minimalistic, Mystical, but still Ethereal and Warm, the Saint Laurent SS21 managed to set its own voice.

News Alert: The same voice let us know Saint Laurent left Paris Fashion Week. The brand is about to set a new normality, where it follows its own pace and does not comply with unnecessary conformities and imposed pressures. I guess it remains to see where this may lead to...

Back on the show... The scenery... The backdrop... Wasn't it perfect? Minimalistic at its nature, Marvel and Warm... It's Desert. Follow me...

... you imagine yourself being there, right? Walking on the sand, while the soft breeze is cooling you down. A sense of freedom penetrates your body. Your gaze is reaching the horizon. Only sand ridges unfolding on the landscape. You look down and see yourself wearing slingback heels with pointed metal-toe claps. Yes! Keep on going! You are wearing biker shorts and a mandarin-collared belted jacket. Yeess! Now, what is this weird sensation around your neck? A flower with a leather thong. And on your head? A chic punk-inspired haircut. You are walking with your pelvis slightly pushed forward, emitting a nochelic, hypnotic, laid-back feeling. Walking like a tortured nomad and looking like the exact opposite. Sensual, fenimine, seductive and even poisonous at times...

... Wooww... wake up... well done! You are officially an YSL model!

The choice of set certainly drew inspirations from the connection between the fashion house and the North Africa region. Keep in mind Saint Laurent was born in Algeria and used to regularly find shelter in Marrakech -Morocco- to rest, get inspired and create. As Anthony Vaccarello said:

"I wanted to focus on the essence of things. I think it's a sign of the times. But I didn't want anything bleak or heavy. The desert, to me, symbolizes that yearn for serenity, open space, a slower rhythm. The clothes are also softer, the spirit of the collection is more gentle, stripped back."

And indeed the designer managed to get out of his comfort zone and go ''comfortable.'' He drew inspiration from the jersey creations designed by Saint Laurent back in 1968. Selective floral patterns and marabou negligee dressing also transported us back in the '60s. As Anthony Vaccarello noted: “I have found a natural echo between then and today: troubled times you know, but also times full of new ideas, a desire for changes and a better world.” It is his own way of digging for optimism during such weird times.

And what do we have for the very end? Fire 'burning' the edges of the sand ridge. The Saint Laurent SS21 collection reveals its golden pieces, these body-adornment pieces that act like a jewel by Claude Lalanne. Booomm...! And here we come to the end of the show with a message from Anthony Vaccarello, which you may feel free to interpret in your own way:

“I wish you were here.”
