DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION: THE MISCONCEIVED VALUES OF TODAY'S SOCIETY

Nowadays companies are talking about diversity. They want to prove to the public they embrace diversity and have made inclusivity one of their core values. Before we continue unravelling our thoughts, let's think for a bit. What is currently defined as diversity and inclusivity? --- Diversity: the practice or quality of including or involving people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations, etc. Inclusivity:  the practice or policy of providing equal access to opportunities and resources for people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized, such as those having physical or mental disabilities or belonging to other minority groups. --- In a perfect society, diversity and inclusion would mean letting any person enter, or the chance to enter, a group of people. In such a world, we would not even think, nor be preoccupied, of other people's color, way of dressing, sexual orientation, gender, among many many others....

LOUIS VUITTON SS21 FASHION COLLECTION | FASHION DESIGNER Nicolas Ghesquière | Lines draw NO GENDER | OutLoud

Fashion brand Louis Vuitton, SS21 collection by Nicolas Ghesquière. A place where all genders are free to play and be involved!

You are in the air! Helicopter-ish sounds and a 360-degree view is what you get!

This is your introduction to the Louis Vuitton SS21 show

As Nicolas Ghesquière said, “The conditions that we’re facing are making us think differently. We came up with the idea of different degrees of presence.” And sure they did!

Ok! It's time to end your anticipation and satisfy your needs. Watch Nicolas Ghesquière's creations in the video below. You are so not gonna regret this!

Traditionally, the Louis Vuitton show is the one that closes fashion week. The top, most delicious, cherry of the cake, let's say! Jaw-dropping shows are what the brand has indulged as with. And Louis Vuitton SS21 is not the exception.

It all takes place at the top floor of the Samaritaine building in Paris. The walls are equipped with green screens, all in between the Art Nouveau frescoes and the Art Deco architecture. Why green screens? How on earth would you be able to watch the movie “Wings of Desire," as directed by Wim Wenders? Dah?

Why ''Wings of Desire"? Angels! Why Angels? No Gender! And that's exactly the only thing this collection did not have. Gender! As Nicolas Ghesquière explains:

“My question this season was less about one theme; it was about this zone between femininity and masculinity. This zone is highlighted by nonbinary people, people that are taking a lot of freedom dressing themselves as they want, and, in turn, giving a lot of freedom to all of us. I found it inspiring to explore what the items are that represent this wardrobe that is not feminine, not masculine. I wanted to zoom in on that section in between.”

And sure he did! What does this mean? What's with the questions? It means oversized silhouettes -inspired by the '80s- with loose trousers, loose tee-dresses, loose duster coats and loose cropped hoodies. You know what else is loose?

You.

Gotcha!

Anywayy... Either with a belt that slightly highlights the waist or with no belt -for the ones who need an extra push to get the concept- we could definitely see T-shirts as dresses. What else? Overcoats that reminded us of oversized sweaters. That's all? Oh shut up... Expandable jackets that could adjust in a more feminine or loose fit. Don't get it wrong though. There was balance. And that is exactly what the sequin suits, the slim leather trousers and the boxy cropped blazers gave us. Balance!

I see baaagggss! You see them too!? It must be the disease.

New babies are introduced, like the ‘Chroma key’ bag with an oversized chain strap, the ‘Quicksilver’, the ‘Petite Malle’, the ‘Carousel’, the ‘Parisian Chic’, the ‘Blade’ clutch, and oversized 'Bucket' bags, to name a few.

Ohh... Don't make me do the whole performance again for the shoees... Alrighty! We have the disease.

Pillow Boots, Puffy Platforms, and Soccer Derbies are the ones that, for sure, get our attention. See for yourself by clicking on them!

Annndd... I haven't forgotten how much you want to watch each and every outfit of the Louis Vuitton SS21 collection! Click here baby! ;)

Let's close this madness with a promising line from Nicolas Ghesquièr:

“A lot of new windows and perspectives are opening. It’s another step towards globality, and I guess that’s absolutely necessary. We’ve sometimes made people feel excluded. So probably, it’s a way to include more people in what we do.”

Inclusivity is key, people!

Babaiii!
