DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION: THE MISCONCEIVED VALUES OF TODAY'S SOCIETY

Nowadays companies are talking about diversity. They want to prove to the public they embrace diversity and have made inclusivity one of their core values. Before we continue unravelling our thoughts, let's think for a bit. What is currently defined as diversity and inclusivity? --- Diversity: the practice or quality of including or involving people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations, etc. Inclusivity:  the practice or policy of providing equal access to opportunities and resources for people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized, such as those having physical or mental disabilities or belonging to other minority groups. --- In a perfect society, diversity and inclusion would mean letting any person enter, or the chance to enter, a group of people. In such a world, we would not even think, nor be preoccupied, of other people's color, way of dressing, sexual orientation, gender, among many many others....

MAISON MARGIELA SS21 FASHION COLLECTION | Fashion Designer John Galliano | FAMILY DRAMA, TANGO & WATER | OutLoud

Fashion brand Maison Margiela SS21 collection by John Galliano. Where haute couture gets RTW and tango leads the katharsis!

What John Galliano created for us is a dance marathon at a dramatic wedding! A place where passion, movement, water, and darkness come alive. In a film directed by Nick Knight we see the designer taking us through his creative journey, with the help of his crew and muses. A proper insight into the Maison Margiela fashion house! Save some time and have a taste of what this has to offer.

It is the sequel of the ''Sealed With A Loving Kiss'' series, which first started for the Maison Margiela artisanal collection of fall 2020. One of the major goals for the SS21 line is to take the techniques of the haute couture collection and industrialize them in a way that still captures the artistic essence, but requires less hard, manual work.

The result is a typical -for the fashion house- sense of deconstructed, yet constructed aesthetic. It is where the Neoclassical tradition of the veiled marble sculptures inspires the veiled coverings and the organza fabric, filling the generous cuts of the jackets.

At the same time, 'wet look' reaches the next level with oil-slicked effects on tailoring and scenes filmed underwater. Let's just say if you were one of the models, you would end up soaking wet and with dead feet -as a consequence of the endless dance.

NO DRAMA!

Tango dance was the main dish! It was the means to mark the time of new beginnings. A katharsis! As expressed by John Galliano:

"Vigorous and intense, the dance is cathartic: releasing the spirit of the old, it inspires the lust to move on. It compels acceptance; it heralds new beginnings; it beckons change."

Dancing to the beat of today's fashion landscape, Galiano remains loyal to the 'Recicla' concept he introduced in his AW20 collection. The notion behind it includes the upcycling of vintage pieces with the aim to repurpose their lives. As John Galliano states, "Breathing life back into charity shop finds, repurposing wicker bags, utilizing dead-stock fabrics, and using offcuts or luxury leathers—all speak to the mentality and ethic of today."

DOES IT SPEAK TO YOU?

As for the shoes. we became witnesses of the pointed-toe interpretations of Mary Janes, while the Tabi effects declare absolutely no desire to withdraw themselves.
